2018 Spring Conference

The KYSPRA Organization has once again had a enlightening and successful Spring Conference!  March 16th the group met at General Butler State Resort Park in Carrollton, Kentucky for a  day of educational and entertaining sessions. The morning began with a buffet breakfast and welcome by Hillary Wright-Kaufman, our Conference Planner.  

The first set of breakout sessions  were Armando Arrasstia and Morgan Watson. Mr. Arrastia was director of publications and web service at the Kentucky Department of Education for 12 years.  After leaving KDE, he established Five Oaks Communications, a full-service consulting company.  His session  presentation was  “Facebook and Facebook Live: Great Tools for Communication."  Ms. Watson serves as the chief communications officer for Warren County Public Schools in Bowling Green, Kentucky.  Prior to that, she had a decade-long career in broadcast journalism. Her session was “Telling Stories Through Video."

The second set of breakout sessions in the morning were by Sharon Fields and Steve Carter. Sharon is the Business Relations Specialist and MOS Trainer at Kentucky Educational Development Corporation. She is certified in Microsoft Office 2000 and 2010 and gave a presentation called “Excel Tips and Tricks”.  Mr. Carter is assistant superintendent at Union County Public Schools and President-Elect of Kentucky Association of School Administrators. His session was “Building Positive Relations."

The fourth set of breakout sessions were by Sharon Fields, Allison Gardner Martin and Daniel Kemp.  Ms. Fields, who presented in the morning session, spoke on “Outlook Tips and Tricks."  Ms. Martin is Chief Communications and Community Relations Officer for Jefferson County Public Schools. She has been a broadcast journalist and was Chief of Staff and Communications Director for Attorney General Jack Conway.  Mr. Kemp is Deputy Communications Director for Jefferson County Public Schools. He has been a television news anchor and served in key communications roles in state government and political campaigns.  

The final breakout session was by Kelly Middletown, Superintendent of Newport Independent Schools.  Mr. Middletown has been a longtime member of KYSPRA and gives the organization credit for much of his success. He has presented many times at The National School Boards Conference, the National School Public Relations Conference and conducts customer service staff development for all job descriptions in schools throughout the United States.
